  • There are also 24-hour phone lines if you need to get help, get a referral or just talk to someone:
    • Lifeline 13 11 14: counselling, professional support and local referrals (24 hours)
    • Beyondblue 1300 22 4636: mental health info line
    • Salvo Care Line NSW 1300 36 36 22: volunteers providing support and referral in crisis
    • NSW Health Mental Health Information Line on 1800 794 991: for referral to local services including professionals and self help and support groups
    • SANE Australia Helpline 1800 817 263: An information and referral service (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm)
    • Women’s Information and Referral Service 1800 817 227: Free confidential information and referral for a wide range of services in NSW (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm)
    • Men’s Line 1300 78 99 78: Staffed by trained professionals who can provide information, support and referral for men (24 hours). Service locator at http://menslineaus.org.au/Services-Database.html


  • You can ask your GP to make an appointment with a psychologist/psychiatrist at a clinic or find a psychologist in your local area:
    • The ‘Find a Psychologist’ page on the Australian Psychological Society (APS) website allows you to search for a private psychologist in your area:  http://www.psychology.org.au/FindaPsychologist. Note this does not need a GP referral.
